Happy New Year

It's hard to believe that another year has passed us by and yet here we are. Our family likes to go to the Sherwood Park fireworks display on New Years Eve and then bring in the New Year with friends. This year was no different. I thought sharing a few of my favorite bursts would be a fitting way to start 2012 in the hopes of many more photos to come. I love to take photos especially of this young lady. I am particularly attached to her - you see she is my daughter. Since Jess became a member of the family a tradition we have is to take annual photos while on a outing instead of buying the photos from the school. I love how her personality shows right through. Day of Fun

Today a good friend of mine and myself went down to the Alberta Legislature grounds and had a little fun. My friend wanted to learn more about her camera and to get off of the Auto setting and I needed to get back out and use my camera with my new glasses. I hadn't shot a camera with progressive lenses before. We found some nice areas and had a good time. Here are a few of the treasures that I found today.

Heritage Days

I don't exactly know what happend, but here we are in September already. A few things since our holidays have come and gone and now kids are back to school and the cooler weather is starting to come.

Every year in Edmonton we have something called Heritage Days. This is were we can experience the taste and culture of almost every country around the world. Here is a small snapshot of the Scandinavian Pavilion were my family spends the August long weekend most years.

Summer Vacation - The Voyage home

As we winded down our time in British Columbia we visited the Revelstoke train museum, enjoyed watching Jess and my Uncle make an inukshuk and stopped Yoho National Park to finish our time before the long trek home.

Jess found our time at the train museum great with all the hands on activities that were possible. They certainly have put a lot of great effort here. On our last full day in Revelstoke the Inukshuk was built. I love how Jess puts herself really into something she is creating. The one stop we made in Yoho was at the Takkakaw Falls. I love visiting here as these are not only very tall; but also you can safely get quite close to the base and get some wonderful mist shots.

Summer Vacation - Revelstoke Part Two

If you haven't noticed yet I have a real attraction to water. I love taking photographs of water falls of all sizes that I can get to - so you will see a smattering of them through out my posts.

We visited the Enchanted Forest which is a lovely giant ceder forest with representations of different nursery rhymes and other well known characters. We also went to Mount Revelstoke National Park, but were disapointed that we could only go as high as the Snow forest look out due to the lack of snow melting. So we filled our day by visiting the Revelstoke Dam so that Jess could see the difference between this dam and the one at Mica.

Summer Vacation - Revelstoke Part one

Our final visiting area was Revelstoke. We spent a week here so that Jess could get to know her Great Uncle and Aunt. Jess also enjoyed getting to know the area as well as some puppy dog friends. There were so many things we did over the week I thought I would share them with you over a couple of posts. Here we have Hendrick and Jess snorkeling, Katie (the dog) deciding that glacier water isn't her cup of tea yet and our visti to the Mica dam. One of the largest earthfill dams in the world (800 feet high). I hope you are enjoying a 'snap shot' of our time as family.

Summer Vacation - Travelling from Creston to Revelstoke

On this leg of our trip we travelled from Creston through the Kootenay mountains up to Revelstoke. Some of the sites and scenes were amazing. The altitude wasn't too high, but we still found some snow at the summit as well as through the Slocam valley. We crossed the river at Nakusp and entered into Revelstoke shortly after.

Summer Vacation - Cranbrook

In Cranbrook we had a great time visiting as well as exploring some of the local sites including Fort Steele. While in this area I was treated to also visit Kimberly and Marysville; both were wonderful. In Marysville we went to a local waterfall that was a part of Marks Creek. We followed that up with going into Kimberly's Comico Gardens - very peaceful; but I really loved the main street. Perhaps you will too with the last image included in this selection. Hope you are enjoying making some great memories too.

Time To Dance

Recently my daughter helped celebrate Norway's Independence Day. This national holiday to Norway is traditionally held on May 17th. In Canada the Norwegian community try and celebrate it on as close as possible to that day. Children are a focal point of this Norwegian holiday so the Valhalla Junior Scandinavian dancers are invited to perform annually. This year the adult Valhalla dancers also joined with a great performance. It was a great evening to take in. Please enjoy some of the memories of this event.

Jasper - A pre-Anniversary trip

Summer is a fun time. My family and I went on a fabulous trip around Alberta this summer - So I thought that I would share a few of my favorites. We visited a few places including the Drumheller region, Waterton Lakes National Park and Calgary.

I must say that next to weddings, Birthday's are my next favorite event to capture. Especially children's birthdays as you can't help but to have a good time when you see so many smiles. My nephew's birthday party was no different. This years theme was fur trading so it was appropriate to celebrate down at Fort Edmonton. Spring Break

This year Spring Break and Easter week were pretty much one and the same on the Calendar. Starting with Palm Sunday here in Edmonton then our family spent some time in Kananaskis for a few days for Easter.

Kananaskis Country is another one of those gems in the Alberta Rockies. It was so peaceful that one didn't mind so much that it was warmer in Edmonton than there not to mention the light skiffs of snow.

Frosty Rundle

Well the day finally came.

Hendrick was attending his own convocation this year. Graduation for anyone is worth celebrating, but for Hendrick this was extra special. After 10 years of distance education from Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta this day has finally come. His family and friends are very happy and proud of Hendrick especially his wife (that would be me...)

Recently I was asked to take some portraits to commemorate little Quinn's 6 month milestone. He is quite the happy little guy and a sheer joy to work with. We went to the Citadel Theatre Atrium in Edmonton which makes a wonderful background when outside is all snow. Jeff and Paige you are definitely blessed with this little guy.

It was great to meet this awsome family not too long ago to help them get some family photo's created as one of the daughters was only home in Canada for a brief time. Denim and Diamonds a JDRF Fundraiser

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Fundraiser other wise known as JDRF for short is a fun way to spend an evening and give some hope to a lot of children at the same time. This was my first year as a volunteer photographer with them and I would love to do it again. It really does touch the heart to see the generosity of others in action. A Windy Day at Rundle Park

Remember that wonderful wind we had a few weeks back (just before Halloween)? Well it turned out to be a great time to capture nature while avoiding tree branches hitting you in the head... I chose to go down to Rundle Park as well as to cross the bridge over to Gold Bar and found some nice areas that still looked like fall and at times it seemed like the leaves were dancing. At one point I was crossing the bridge and saw some leaves blow over the river, you know I could have swore the leaves looked like birds - too bad I didn't bring my long glass with me; lesson learned So fun!

It is always great fun at a child's birthday party and Konour's was no different. There was visiting, food and of course what birthday would be complete without presents. I think I had just as much fun as the birthday boy - it was simply a joy for me to be able to take part in this special way.
